Privacy Policy

Rank It is an Android app for keeping and ranking your own lists. It is made by Edmond (edmondcjg.com) and published on Google Play under the package name com.edmondcjg.rankit.

This policy explains what Rank It does with your information. It is short because Rank It does very little with it.

What Rank It stores on your device

All of the following is written to the app's private storage area, which other apps on your phone cannot read:

• Your lists and items — names, categories, scoring scales, criteria and status fields.
• Your scores, notes and dates — everything you enter about the things you rank.
• Cover images you choose — copied from your photo library into the app's own folder so they survive even if you later delete the original.
• Your app settings — theme, whether cover art is shown, and whether covers are displayed in grayscale.

This information never leaves your device unless you deliberately export or share it.

What Rank It does not do

Rank It does not:

• create an account or ask for your name, email address or phone number
• send your lists, scores, notes or images anywhere
• contain any analytics, tracking, advertising or crash-reporting service
• read your contacts, location, call history, messages or other apps' data
• show advertisements
• sell or share personal information with anyone

The app makes no network requests of its own. The only connections it can cause are to Google Play when you choose to leave a tip, and to your browser if you tap the developer's website link in the About screen.

Permissions, and why they exist

Photos and media

Requested only at the moment you choose to add cover art to an item. On Android 13 and later this uses the system photo picker, which gives Rank It access to the single image you select and nothing else in your gallery. The image is copied into the app's private folder; the original is left untouched.

Billing

Used only for the optional tip, described below.

Internet

Declared because Android requires it for the app framework and for Google Play billing to work. Rank It itself makes no network requests, and no list, score, note or image is ever transmitted.

If you decline the photo permission, Rank It works normally — items simply show their initials instead of a picture.

Rank It requests no camera, microphone, location, contacts or notification access. The camera permission is blocked outright in the app's manifest.

Tips and payments

Rank It is free. It includes a single optional tip — "Buy me a coffee" — which uses Google Play's billing system.

Payments are processed entirely by Google. Rank It never sees or stores your card details, billing address or any other payment information. The app receives only a confirmation from Google Play that a tip completed, which it uses to say thank you and to tell Google the tip can be given again later. That confirmation is not recorded, stored or transmitted anywhere by Rank It.

Your purchase is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and the Google Play terms of service.

When information does leave your device

Only when you ask it to, and only to a destination you choose:

• Export a backup. Creates a JSON file containing your lists and scores (not your cover images) and hands it to Android's share sheet. You pick where it goes — your own storage, a cloud drive, a messaging app. It is not sent anywhere by Rank It.
• Share a snapshot. Renders a PNG image of a list's top-ranked items and hands it to the share sheet in the same way.

Once you have shared a file, what happens to it is governed by whichever app or service you sent it to.

Importing files

If you import a backup or a CSV, Rank It reads the file you select and stores its contents on your device the same way as anything else you enter by hand. The file is read locally and is not uploaded.

How long information is kept

Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You can:

• delete individual items or lists inside the app
• use Me → Delete all data to erase every list, item and cover image
• uninstall Rank It, which removes the app's private storage, including all lists, scores, notes, images and settings

Because none of it is stored anywhere else, uninstalling the app is a complete deletion. There is no copy on a server for anyone to recover, including the developer.

Children

Rank It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. It has no accounts, no messaging and no user-generated content visible to anyone but the person using the device.

Your rights

Data protection laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete personal information held about you. Because Rank It collects no personal information and holds nothing on any server, there is nothing for the developer to look up, hand over or erase — you already hold the only copy, and the app gives you tools to export and delete it yourself.

For anything relating to a tip payment, Google is the data controller. Requests about payment records should go to Google.

Changes to this policy

If Rank It's behaviour changes in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
